MY TWO-MONTH INTERNSHIP IN PRINT MEDIA

I have been sure for several years that I wanted to be a journalist and more precisely a war reporter. I love writing, I love people and I am particularly touched by what is happening in developing countries. Being sure of my choice of future profession, it was therefore obvious for me to do my internship in the field of written press. In my search for an internship, I naturally looked for newspapers/magazines with an international section in order to take my first step into global journalism. I got a favorable answer from Le Vif/L’express and that’s when my adventure started.

It was agreed with my internship supervisor that I would be a journalist for the magazine’s web editors and that I would therefore be asked to attend the daily editorial meeting, to write articles independently (from choosing the subject to publishing the article, including researching and writing the article), to cover an event and to conduct interviews. Le Vif does not have a journalist assigned to each section of the online site (international, health, Belgium, politics, etc.), which allows everyone to cover the subjects of their choice. The fact that I was able to cover all subjects was a real opportunity for me because I discovered an interest in subjects related to health and children and it also confirmed my attraction for international subjects.

During my internship, I wrote about fifty articles, produced a complete dossier on a particular topic, conducted interviews, produced interactive content and also covered an event. This internship has given me a lot. On a personal level, this experience allowed me to confirm my choices concerning my future job and gave me more desire to achieve my dreams. Working in a team taught me to listen, to accept criticism and advice, to assert myself, to help others and to accept help. Professionally, I learned to use software such as Ocari, to research information in depth, to check my sources and to dare to conduct interviews. I had the freedom to let my imagination and creativity run wild, I was able to work in total autonomy while having the rest of the team at my disposal if needed.

This internship was a first step into the world of journalism and I am now sure that I want to be part of it and above all, that I belong.
